Feeling stuck? Is your life a little messy? I get it. When I have things out of whack, it affects all parts of my life. When I get my finances in order, I feel so much better and have more energy to touch on the other parts of my life. I'm here to help you get started. Hi, I'm Eva. I'm the owner of Budget Your Life and I help people get on track if you are feeling stuck or not sure where to start.
If you are new to budgeting you probably don't know where to start. This GIF is my reaction every time I look at my budget and I am on track. You may not have this reaction right away, however if you can grasp the importance of putting a little work in at the beginning of your budget journey, you will start seeing results and get to your goals that much quicker!
Budgets do not have to be crazy strict or really in depth. You are in control of how you budget. If you want to start by adding up your bills and how much you spend each month and put that on a piece of paper. Then, add up how much money you made and write that down. Now, comes The Math. Take what you made for a month and subtract how much you spent. Is there money left over? Or did you spend more than you brought in? Maybe you have credit card debt and didn't notice you overspent because you were using your credit card. Now you know. (Side note- I do not care if you use a credit card or not. I use one. I love my credit card points. No judgements here)
Set Goals
Setting a few financial goals will give you something to work towards. Now, if you hate this idea, I get it, I wasn't always goal driven. Now that I'm a little older and see my path that I took, I realize I could have gotten their sooner if I would have followed through on some of my goals. If you still hate the idea, I hope you can find at least 1 clear financial goal to set for yourself. Whether that is to pay off debt, save for a plane ticket to go visit family or save for the dream vacation trip you have always wanted to take (this last one was how I got started!). Find one that works for you and write it down on paper and put it where you can see it. You might not act on it right away, but you will. And whenever you start is the right time for you.
Find a Budgeting Method
There are a bunch of ways you can budget. You can go onto Amazon and buy a budget journal. Or use a spiral notebook. There are digital versions, apps, really anything that might make it easier for you to budget. I use a few different things, but I'm a nerd and love to budget. I have a new YouTube channel that I am using to help show some clients how I set up my budgets. I'm going to be using a few methods over the next few months so there will plenty to watch and choose what might be best for you. If you are ready to go now, great! Pick up a piece of paper and a pen and start looking at past bank and credit card statements and write down what you spend your money on and how much you average on each category. You will only have to do this once, and it is worth it. If you want to check out my YouTube channel go here. I only have a few videos at the time of this blog, but I will be adding more and more each week so check back often!
